From the first hour of life: Improving infant and young child feeding practices

Thank you for joining us for the Breastfeeding Week webinar. It was an opportunity to engage health-care providers and health-system partners across B.C. in a conversation about protecting, promoting and supporting breast/chest feeding.

We know that lactating parents, caregivers and families need support from the health service, workplace and community to optimally breast/chest feed, progressing from one level to the other. To ensure we can meet those needs, we asked you to share your challenges with us in our SliDo poll and we’re grateful for all of your responses. Please note that we will be sharing and discussing your responses with the Provincial Infant & Young Child Feeding Committee on October 19.

SliDo poll responses

We asked you what you need in order to provide better support for breast/chest feeding families, and you gave us valuable responses in our SliDo poll. The SliDo poll responses identified four key thematic areas:

  • Provider education
  • Additional support/funding
  • Continuity of care
  • Consistent messaging

If you haven’t had an opportunity to tell us what you need to provide better support for breast/chest feeding families, please send us an email at psbc@phsa.ca

We will review and discuss your responses with the newly launched Provincial Infant & Young Child Feeding Committee at the upcoming meeting on October 19.
